Each year, one of the true highlights of our spring sale season is the offering of our elite commercial bred heifers. As in years past, this select group was identified shortly after weaning and then subjected to multiple rounds of sorting and culling before being synchronized and A.I. bred to one of the most sought-after sires in the Angus breed.
These females represent the very best of our commercial program—high-volume, deep-ribbed, large-framed, feminine-fronted heifers that command attention as they enter the ring at Kist Livestock Auction. For more than 35 years, leading cattlemen from across the region have gathered to witness the auctioneer’s chant firsthand and take part in the competitive bidding to secure what many consider the prize offering of the spring sale season.
New and repeat buyers alike consistently tell us these heifers have exceeded expectations—not only in quality and disposition, but also in milking ability, breed-back consistency, and the performance of the calves they go on to produce. Commercial bred heifers can be purchased in many places, but it is difficult to find a group that is as tightly related, uniformly developed, and genetically consistent as these Tokach females and their offspring. As one respected cattleman once remarked, “Where else are you going to find heifers like the Tokach females?”
As an added bonus, this year’s heifers were synchronized and A.I. bred on June 14 to Cherry Creek Blue Collar. Blue Collar was the high-volume sales leader at Origen Bull Stud for the past two years. His combination of calving ease, performance EPDs, foot quality, and muscle expression is widely recognized across the breed. Now deceased, his semen is in high demand, making this mating especially valuable.
Clean-up bulls on the commercial heifers were TOKACH Growth Fund 1525 3372 (Reg. #20820068) and TOKACH Sonic 4371 (Reg. #21121410). Both are proven low birth weight, calving ease sires with weaning ratios of 117 and 122, respectively, and were younger outliers within their calf crops.
All heifers will have received their second dose of Scour Bos® 4, will be rechecked for pregnancy, and will have complete health papers to allow them to ship anywhere.
Every one of these females was raised right here on our ranch and carries the Tokach brand. If you are searching for a special group of closely related foundation females A.I. bred to the exciting Cherry Creek Blue Collar, be sure to be in your seats on sale day, February 16.
You will not be disappointed.
